These truffles are my go to recipe for a quick and easy treat for a lot of people. Chocolate truffles are a great treat to bring to an event because they won’t break or fall apart like a cupcake would. They also look very fancy and seem harder to make than they are.
The batter for these truffles is quite delicious and looks like this. When you take it out of the fridge, it will be hard and stiff in some areas. Before you start making it into balls, stir it up a little bit so all of it is the same consistency.
I like to use chocolate chips inside the truffles because I like the taste, but if you like milk or dark chocolate better, you can also use that. To coat, I used some dark and white chocolate melting wafers for some variety. Because this recipe makes so many truffles, it’s fun to mix it up and make them all different. To top, I used sprinkles, crushed Oreos, sweetened coconut, and this sweet coffee and chocolate “salt” made from sugar. I found this at Trader Joe’s.
Original recipe makes 5 dozen
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
3 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla
- more melted chocolate chips or chocolate melting wafers
In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in confectioners’ sugar until well blended. Stir in melted chocolate and vanilla until no streaks remain. Refrigerate for about 1 hour. Shape into 1 inch balls. Coat balls with chocolate and top with sprinkles, coconut, or mini chocolate chips.
